What is an MES system?

The MES system holds a key position in digital enterprises. It combines manufacturing information and promptly forwards it regardless of whether the recipient is a human or a machine. The MES system acts as a data hub and connects work stations and machines to the ERP system. Furthermore, it supports or completely takes over the planning of manufacturing processes and automatically generates data for controlling. Thus, the MES system becomes an important operative tool for your production.

What does MES mean?

MES (Manufacturing Execution System) is an information system for production management. It provides a range of functions, such as planning, machine data acquisition (MDA), production data acquisition (PDA), energy monitoring, monitoring and alerting, maintenance, HR functions or traceability.

All data that are generated during production are combined, processed and are made available to different users within and outside manufacturing.

In its capacity as a data hub, it integrates already existing IT systems that are used in production and, if necessary, supplies all IT systems involved with relevant data.

Since its connection to the ERP system is generally bidirectional, it forms the link between process and corporate management level.
