The FASTEC 4 PRO Software Solution At The Baumgarte Iron Foundry
Eisengiesserei Baumgarte is one of the largest German foundries with three molding plants and diverse references in a wide range of industries. For many decades, the company has stood for sophisticated, contemporary casting technology, top quality and pioneering technology. The iron foundry is committed to maintaining this lead – now and in the future. An important step in this direction was the introduction of the MES FASTEC 4 PRO.
- Industry: Metal processing
- In Use: MES solution FASTEC 4 PRO with the modules Machine Data Acquisition and Production data acquisition as well as the Additional Functions Process Data Acquisition and Document Display
- Interfaces: SD interface based on XML
- Connected Systems: Core shooters, forming systems, BICOR machines, machining centers
"With an MES system, we can achieve greater transparency, an improved flow of information and smoother processes in our company."
Short And Precise
Smooth Communication Between MES And ERP System
At Eisengiesserei Baumgarte, 230 employees currently work on a production area of 20,000 m² on ultra-modern production facilities. Around 30,000 tons of castings are cast and processed here every year.
Everything From A Single Source Thanks To The Manufacturing Execution System
The introduction of an MES was an important step towards sustainability, efficiency and the future for Eisengiesserei Baumgarte. Volker Spruch, Head of Technical Controlling at Eisengiesserei Baumgarte and MES project manager, comments: “With an MES, we can react more efficiently to changing market conditions and meet the increasing customer requirements for our castings while maintaining consistently high quality. With the MES, we have up-to-date performance and therefore cost data at all times.”
Kick-Off And Introduction Of The MES Project
The go-ahead for the introduction of the MES solution FASTEC 4 PRO was given at the end of 2010. The module for machine data acquisition
Machine Data Acquisition (MDA) module was implemented as a pilot installation. This MDA module was put into operation quickly and easily thanks to the clearly defined requirements for the MES. In spring 2011, 6 months after the pilot installation, the system was extended to the remaining 12 machines in the core shop. In August of the same year, the three molding lines of the Baumgarte iron foundry followed. Two of the molding lines were connected “classically” via FASTEC I/O modules, while another was bound via a special XML-based web interface.
“Thanks to FASTEC 4 PRO, we have access to immediately usable data in real-time. This means we can carry out audits at any time within 5 minutes.” Eckhard Winter, Managing Director, Eisengiesserei Baumgarte GmbH
