The FASTEC 4 PRO Software Solution At Heraeus Medical
One product line of the Heraeus technology group is manufactured at the Heraeus Medical GmbH facility in Wehrheim. This medium-sized company specializes in the production of bone cements and biomaterials for surgical orthopedics and trauma surgery. Demand for these products is continuously increasing.
Since the Wehrheim site opened in the 1950s, the company has grown steadily. Based on this success, several million euros were invested in the renovation and new construction of the production facilities in 2015. However, the positive economic development of Heraeus Medical GmbH also presented some obstacles, and in 2014 the company began looking for the right tool to solve them.

Short And Precise
A Self-Sufficient OEE System As The Key To Success
“We needed a tool that would quickly provide us with clarity about our production with the corresponding facts and figures,” reports Dr. Bär, Head of Production at Heraeus Medical GmbH. ”Since a self-sufficient OEE system was the most suitable solution for this purpose, our two departments – Production Management and Supply Chain Planning – set out to find an MES provider that met our requirements.”
easyOEE As An OEE Entry
Heraeus Medical’s clearly defined requirements and objectives set the conditions and constraints for the OEE solution. “In the end, we were convinced by the very clear and user-friendly design of the FASTEC solution, as well as the fast data evaluation and diagram creation,” summarizes Dr. Bär. “The price was also attractive. In addition, we received very friendly and competent advice.” Since easyOEE works completely independently without intervention in the plant control system and is not integrated into the existing network, it fulfills one of the medical device manufacturer’s project requirements: it does not need to be GMP-validated, as is usual for medical processes.
easyOEE Becomes An MDA/OEE System On Six Lines
Driven by the positive experiences with FASTEC and the successes already achieved with easyOEE, Heraeus Medical GmbH decided in 2015 to equip a further five primary, secondary, tertiary and final packaging lines in the cleanroom area with OEE recording. However, the basic requirement for creating a self-sufficient OEE system remained.
OEE Increase Of Up To 15%
The transparency gained in the production process has led to significantly improved processes at Heraeus Medical GmbH. As early as 2015, an increase in OEE of up to 5% could be observed on a pilot line using easyOEE. “In 2016, the OEE of individual lines was increased by a total of 10-15% within a year,” says Dr. Timo Mack, Head of LEAN Operations at Heraeus Medical GmbH.
